What have you done well?

This morning, after I dropped my kids off at school, I noticed I was feeling a bit down. Now I know emotions are generated from thoughts, so I listened to the auto-pilot thoughts going on very quietly in my mind, and they were all thoughts of how I have fallen short as a mother.

What culture are you creating?

This past Friday I was at a women’s conference downtown Sacramento and heard speaker, Roy Spence, share many stories and make many great points on his topic. I can’t say that I remember clearly what his topic was, but the man did his job in leaving me with one powerful impartation. He made a comment that stuck with me, so much, that I’m writing to you about it today.

Are you willing?

“It’s common to say that trees come from seeds. But how could a tiny seed create a huge tree? Seeds do not contain the resources needed to grow a tree. These must come from the medium or environment within which the tree grows. But the seed does provide something that is crucial: a place where the whole of the tree starts to form. As resources such as water and nutrients are drawn in, the seed organizes the process that generates growth. In a sense, the seed is a gateway through which the future possibility of the living tree emerges.”

How do you get out of a hole?

I heard about this woman who wrote her autobiography. It had four very short chapters. They went something like this: Chapter 1- I was walking down the street. There was a hole whole in the sidewalk. I fell in. It wasn’t my fault. It took me a very long time, but I finally got out. Chapter 2- I was walking down the same street. There was a hole in the sidewalk. I fell in. It was my fault. It took me a very long time, but I finally got out. Chapter 3- I was walking down the same street. There was a hole in the sidewalk. I walked around it. Chapter 4- I walked down a different street.
