“Choice of attention - to pay attention to this and ignore that - is to the inner life what choice of action is to the outer. In both cases, a man is responsible for his choice and must accept the consequences, whatever they may be.” ~W. H. Auden

Pay attention to what you pay attention to. Your attention is yours. If you choose to be purposeful with your attention, you can do great things with it. Your attention is going to be on something, whether you choose it or not. Don’t allow your attention to be on auto-pilot; taken over by whatever comes your way. Choose where and how you invest it.

Be aware throughout your day on what you are giving your attention over to. Is it being given over to productive thoughts of creativity, appreciation, contribution? Or is it being given over to disappointment, obstacles, and complaining?

Think of your attention like any other resource. Use it wisely. Let your attention be invested so that it is fruitful and productive instead of wasteful. You know the saying, “Give them an inch, they’ll take a mile.” That is what happens with our attention, so make sure you are spending it on an area you want to see grow. Another saying that helps clarify what I mean is, “What you focus on expands.”

Start this week out right by choosing to be purposeful in what you give your attention to and experience a great sense of empowerment and improved results!
