The Katz Diagram

The Katz Diagram

This model, created by Robert Katz, is used to reveal organizational structure and the skills needed in differing roles. The model shows there is no us vs. them but rather a collective team driving a united vision. It also reveals the reality that there are differing skills needed for the varying roles. All roles and positions require interpersonal communication skills. Employees, those doing the work, need proficiency in the work, technical skills, while managers and supervisors, need strategic skills in order to lead those doing the work. Collectively the organization thrives. Volition uses this diagram, in part, to shine light that rank does not replace importance.
