Don’t Give Up: Get Unstuck 2

When you get stuck, you are strapped in a roller-coaster of resentment, avoidance, and tolerance. The ups and downs of the ride are exhausting, and the exhaustion only reinforces the stuck-ness. Most of us do nothing to create the much desired change in our life and instead vacillate between hoping things magically improve all on their own and abandoning hope all together.

The longer you stay on the resentment, avoidance, and tolerance ride, the harder it will be to get off. It becomes easier to just give up and give in to accepting that, “this is just the way it is and the way it will always be.”

It doesn’t have to be that way, you always have a choice. You can choose to no longer be stuck. The moment you recognize you are stuck is a victory because you can move into getting unstuck.

Getting unstuck doesn’t happen overnight, nor does it happen by accident. It happens slowly and intentionally. One thought and one action at a time.

Getting unstuck starts with a decision that enough is enough. It’s a decision to grab the bull by the horns and to step out of passivity and into purpose. Just tell yourself that “if it’s going to be, it’s up to me”.

Think of getting unstuck like the process of restoring this car. First someone needs to see the car for what it could be and believe that restoration is possible. Then they must decide to restore it, that it is worth the investment.

Why would anyone even want to restore this broken down and deteriorating car? One would have to see a value in restoration, know the cars potential, and believe it was possible. The same is true for whatever area we feel stuck in. We must:

  • See the value of getting unstuck—what is the benefit of taking in the project or process?
  • See what improvement would look like—what do you see is possible? What is your vision for improvement?
  • Believe improvement is possible—there is no question to ask. Only a statement of “I know it’s possible!”

Getting unstuck starts in your mind’s eye, you must see it before it happens. You must believe it is possible, make a decision to take that first step, and then follow through until the end!

Getting stuck doesn’t happen overnight, nor does getting unstuck. We must be awake and intentional, one thought and one action at a time.

Are you identifying with an area you are stuck in? Maybe it is at work, in a relationship, in your fitness, or in your dreams? If so, take heart! Take hope! Take courage! You can get unstuck. It won’t be easy, nor will it be quick, but that is okay. You can do it, you must do it!

Take one baby step towards getting unstuck. Sometimes, that first step is so hard to do but just do it! It may open up a door to a whole new level of obstacles, but that is the simple part of the process. It’s like towing that car off of the freeway and into the shop, you may be afraid of what you will be quoted for the repairs. You don’t know until you ask, so take that first step and tow the car. Just be bold and find out what is in store for you.

The effort, attention, and tenacity it takes to get unstuck, restore, and strengthen yourself to enjoy and sustain your new beginning is worth it. You are worth it. After all, getting unstuck creates a new beginning, a new beginning worth fighting for!

I’m in the process of getting unstuck. Join me!

Change is hard. It’s easier to live life, operating from our old, comfortable, and repetitive patterns, rather than actually taking action to create desired change.
