“When you get into a tight place and everything goes against you, till it seems as though you could not hold on a minute longer, never give up then, for that is just the place and time that the tide will turn.”

The way to prevail from life’s disappointments is to plan and prepare to prevail.
Disappointment and failure have visited us all, at one time or another. We all know we should “look on the bright side.” But when we are in the middle of a disappointment, the last thing we feel like doing is looking on the bright side. So, how then, can we? I say, “Have a plan in place for how you respond to disappointments.”
Be prepared for disappointments by developing and maintaining a strong positive outlook. When disappointment shows up in my life, the first thing I do is mentally disconnect from the outcome. I embrace the worst-case scenario and look for the good. Often times the only good I can entertain is the value in the learning of a lesson. I think of it as an award or like earning a degree in the school of hard knocks. I think, well, I’ll never do that again. Or, wow, what a small price to pay for a priceless lesson.
I have found that if I plan ahead of time to see the learning lesson with each disappointment or with each “failure,” I am able to get over it quicker. I have made many mistakes, some much worse than others, and the only thing that keeps regret and disappointment from paralyzing me and stifling my growth is that I choose to let it go and be grateful for the learning lesson. Disappointment and failure will continue to creep in, so be prepared with an outlook of appreciation for the wisdom gained in every situation. Without disappointment or failure, we wouldn’t be able to experience the confidence and strength that is produced when we prevail.
