Happy Monday! I love this message, “Old ways won’t open new doors.” This is a great reminder as we start a new week. This is a new week and a new opportunity to grow and to improve, but new growth will not occur on accident. We must make a change. We must do something differently.
Change can be so hard because we are creatures of habit. Duke University did a study and 45% of our behavior is unconscious. It’s pretty hard to change something we are not even conscious of. We gotta break it down and really see what the steps are in creating change if we want new doors to open.
Most of our actions are motivated by our feelings. As much as we do not want to admit it, that is the truth. If we feel like doing something, we do it. If we don’t feel like doing something, chances are we won’t. So, if we want to improve what we do, we must improve what we feel.
All our feelings come from our thoughts, so if we want to feel better, we must think better.
Here’s the order:
It all starts with our thoughts. We must improve our thoughts if we want to improve anything. We must let go and replace old mindsets with a new new mindset. That is what I have devoted this entire year to, me developing a higher mindset. The way that I am achieving that is that I am being responsible for everything I expose my mind to- movies, books, music, people, conversations, everything.
Our eyes and ears are the gateway to our souls, so if we want to improve our mindset, our soul, we must be intentional about what we listen to and what we set our eyes on.
I want to encourage you this week, to notice what you are exposing your mind to, in terms of what do you watch? What do you listen to? What conversations are you a part of? Do those things help you grow a more positive, empowering outlook or do they keep you stuck where you are?
Remember, old ways won’t open new doors. If you are like me, and want new doors, with new opportunities, let’s try some new ways by taking captive every thought we have and asking, is this thought useful? Is there a better, higher level way of thinking in this moment?
We must replace our old, negative and limiting thinking with positive, empowered thoughts. Let’s be diligent in replacing our old patterns of thinking that will keep us right here, with improved patterns of thinking that will open new doors. There are a lot of things we cannot control, but the way we think is one thing that we can take responsibility for and improve, if we really want to.
Have an awesome week creating new ways and new doors, beginning with the thoughts in our minds.
